FAIRFIELD SENIORS GOLF ASSOCIATION

FSGA 2014 GOLF PROGRAM

WEEKLY FLIGHTS

1.     The season schedule will be from April to October. The exact starting week will depend on our agreement with the Golf Commission

2.     The membership will be divided into flights based upon handicaps. Play will be on Wednesday only.

3.      All flights will be 18 holes.

4.     Within each flight points will be awarded for low nets and a weekly winner will be recorded together with cumulative points totaled for each player in the flight. A player can only win the weekly award twice during the golf season.

5.     At the end of the season prizes will be given to weekly winners and total point winners

6.     Selected days are designated as “reserved tee times” days. Sign-up sheets for these days will be posted on the FSGA bulletin board three weeks in advance. Eight days before the date of play the HSR Pro Shop will take in the sign-up sheet and block all requested tee times in the computerized tee time system. Any unused tee times are thereby made available to the general public. FSGA players who are "no shows" on the day of play will be subject to the H. Smith Richardson No Show policy.

7.     In the event of inclement weather play will be cancelled if the course is closed by course management.  League play will be automatically canceled whenever electric carts are not allowed on the course.

8.     Players unable to play on scheduled league days may preplay the round within two weeks before the scheduled date. Preplayed rounds will be limited to 2 for the season and will be ineligible for weekly prizes.

HANDICAPS

1.     All players will use USGA handicaps.

2.     Handicaps will be generated utilizing the computer located outside the pro shop at the club house

3.     The handicap committee will assign new players handicaps until they have played sufficient rounds (5 posted scores) for a computer-generated handicap. Maximum assigned course handicap will be 39.6.

4.     Each time a member plays a round of golf he must post that score in the computer whether or not the round was played on a league day or not.

5.     All scores posted are subject to the application of Equitable Stroke Control (ESC). This procedure reduces high hole scores for handicap purposes. ESC is used when a player’s actual hole score exceeds a maximum number based on the table below.

                              EQUITABLE STROKE CONTROL

6.     During the season handicaps will be updated by GHIN on a biweekly basis

7.     A player may request a review of his handicap if he has become physically disabled or incapacitated causing his scores to be considerably higher than last season.  The Handicap Chairman will handle these requests

RULES OF PLAY

1.    The game of golf played under the auspices of the FAIRFIELD SENIORS GOLF ASSOCIATION will be played in conformity with the “ RULES OF GOLF” as established by the USGA.

2.  Certain practices of the past will not be allowed under the USGA rules. If a ball is hit out of bounds or thought to be out of bounds the player will hit a provisional ball under penalty of one stroke. Preferred lies are only permitted only when “winter rules “ are in effect. Players over 75 years of age, or players with handicaps higher than 25 have the option of teeing off from the green tees on league days and they should account for this when entering their score in the GHIN computer for handicap calculation and annual competitions.

3. The following are considered obstructions and the ball may be moved with no penalty:

·        Any area marked with white lines.

·        Trees that are staked or wired.

·        Drainage ditches, roads and parking area.

·        Electrical boxes, water meters and fountains.

·        Behind or under working equipment.

If a ball is stopped or deflected by these obstructions, the ball may be played as it lies or the stroke may be replayed without Penalty.

4.  Stone walls are not obstructions. Ball must be played as it lies or declared not playable and may be moved two club lengths not nearer to the hole with penalty of one stroke.

5.  Wire fence on the 8th hole is not an obstruction.  The ball may be played as it lies or declared not playable and dropped two club lengths from the fence but not nearer to the hole with a penalty of one stroke.

6.  Ponds on holes 3, 4, 6, 10 and 18 are water hazards.  If the ball lies within the confines of the hazard the player may play the ball or drop the ball in the drop area with a one-stroke penalty.

7.  The pond between #8 and #9 holes is a lateral hazard on #9.  On #8 it is a lateral hazard only if the ball rolls into the water.  It is not a lateral hazard on #8 if the ball goes into the water on the fly.  The player must then use the drop area for his next shot.  In both cases a one shot penalty applies unless the player chooses to play from the hazard.

Note: Ball in a lateral hazard may be played from the point it crossed the boundary of the hazard.

8.  It is an HSR local rule that if a ball in a bunker is obstructed by a rock, the rock may be moved.

TOURNAMENTS

1.   There will be five tournaments played during the golf season. Sign-up sheets for these tournaments will be posted on the bulletin board at the club. The format of the tournament each month will be determined by the Tournament Chairman.

2.   A fee of $15 for each tournament will be charged at the time of sign-up. Lunch is included in this fee. However, a player may choose to not have lunch, in which event the tournament fee will be $5. Tournament fees should be deposited in the FSGA lockbox in the Pro Shop.

3.   $15 fee is non- returnable unless the tournament is cancelled or players can present a valid reason for not playing.

4.   No-shows on the day of the tournament, will not only forfeit the fee but will lose the privilege of playing in the next tournament.

5.  In all tournaments, all players will play from the green tees, with the exception of the Club Championship.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

1.      During the golf season all players may compete for the Club Championship. A sign –up sheet will be provided at the start of the season. Within flights, match play will be conducted, based on the most recent handicaps, to determine flight champions.

2.      The Championship committee will post pairings for play within each flight and schedule playoffs for the club championship.

3.      The winners will receive a framed certificate confirming their championship status for that year.
